Chris "Daze" Ellis has taken his art from the streets to the studios. His work is powerful and exciting. Daze, more than any of the "muralists" has successfully conveyed an ongoing message about the mean streets. These cartoon-like figures are humorously drawn, but beneath the pleasantness is a more serious subtext. Daze was recognized early on as one of the masters of the graffiti movement. He was invited to exhibit at prestigious galleries before his twenty-first birthday. Since then, his work has taken on a new sophistication, but has remained true to its intent; to depict the rawness and excitement of the streets and re-create the spontaneity of the subway paintings which were the direct precursors of the post-pop phenomenon.
