John "Crash" Matos  Though there were many graffiti artists in the late 70's and early 80's, few were invited in off the streets into a rarified atmosphere of Manhattan's most progressive and prestigious galleries. Crash was one of the young talented painters who was discovered and invited. Crash's works show the influence of a number of pop artists, including Lichtenstein, Rosenquist and Jaspers Johns, yet they are convincingly original, retaining the power and humor of the hip-hop era.
